Expanding access to Romanian technical and scientific literature through digitisation
Access to quality technical education remains limited for many communities across Romania, particularly for people in rural areas or without access to libraries. MATRIX ROM is addressing this by making over 100 Romanian-authored scientific and technical publications freely available in digital formats.
Over the course of 18 months, the project “Improving access to Romanian technical and scientific literature by digitizing volumes published by MATRIX ROM”, SMIS 330890, co-financed by the European Union through the Smart Growth, Digitization and Financial Instruments Program, will result in the digitization of over 100 volumes already published in fields such as automation, electronics, engineering, mathematics, chemistry and robotics. The works will be available for free in the form of eBooks and audio content through the Bookviewer application. The Android version, already functional, will be expanded with new features, and the application will also be adapted for iOS and Windows. An online catalog with advanced search functions will also be created to facilitate access to the content.
Public engagement activities will accompany the digital release, including vlog episodes, reading challenges and community reading marathons, with the aim of reaching at least 350 new users.
Green eDIH supports this initiative by contributing to project management and communication activities, as part of our broader mission to support our partners to promote inclusive digital innovation and expand access to education, knowledge and opportunity.
